My
surgery was February 9, 1999. I have lost 95 pounds. My size now fits my petite structure,
size 20 to size 4. The most important fact is that my blood pressure is now normal
without medication. Now, I can go up a flight of stairs without being out of breath.
I am so much more active, and am looking forward to summer events, especially fairs
and festivals. I have been a Registered Nurse for 21 years, mostly working in
the field of Geriatrics. I have four grown children and 2 grandchildren. This year
will be my 40th high school class reunion. For the past thirty years I have not been
back. Yes, I am going this year. I will say, this surgery is not without risk.
For me, it was worth the risks. My only regret is that I didn't know about Gastric
Bypass Surgery sooner.
Vice President: Sherry Melton
My
name is Sherry Lynn Melton and I am a 28 year old mother of one boy, Gary. I had
my Gastric Bypass surgery on Feb. 19, 1999. My starting weight was 252lbs. It has
been a little over a year and I now weigh 150lbs. I was a size 24-26 and am now a
12-14. This surgery has been a true blessing from God in my life. Before
my surgery, I was very miserable, hardly having enough energy to get a days work
in, let alone having to come home and take care of my little one also. I also suffer
with asthma and rheumatoid arthritis. Both of these conditions were showing their
symptoms pretty well with all of my excess weight before my surgery. I was on several
different medications trying to keep the above disorders in check. After my surgery,
I am so happy to say, I am off all of my medications for both disorders, have so
much energy I could build a small log cabin each and every day I get off of work
plus take great care of my son! I have loads of fun playing with my little one now
when before, sorry to say, it was a chore to physically keep up with him. I now can
run up a flight of steps without getting winded, take long walks without getting
tired and can actually have fun playing team sports, like softball. There are risks
involved with having this surgery as there are risks involved with any surgery. For
me, the benefits of having this surgery tremendously outweighed the risks. I am so
happy I had the surgery done and would do it all over again 100 times if I had to! Please
feel free to utilize this new Springfield Gastric Bypass group. If there is anyway
any of us can help you, please feel free to email us or call our Gastric Bypass
line when it is up and running! God bless you as you continue your research on
this topic!

My
surgery was November 2, 1999. It has been just over 10 months for me now and I have
already lost 152 pounds. My energy level is so much higher than it was before surgery.
My clothes are starting to get extremely baggy, a new experience for me. Life is
truly becoming more enjoyable. I have been married for 5 years, and am a mother
of two small children, a 8 year old stepson, and a 22 month old baby girl. I work
for a national hotel chain as a Reservation Agent. I am 28 years old, and for the
first time in my life I know I have a future in front of me. Being around to see
my kids grow up, get married, and have families of their own, no longer seems unrealistic.
Finally the future holds many possibilities for me, and I look forward to them all.
